Don’t miss out on the critical data insights from your practice website with the new Google Analytics upgrade

Google Analytics allows you to look at your website data across various marketing channels to understand the full journey of your users. This information is critical to be able to adjust your marketing and get a better return on investment in your marketing campaigns. Google Analytics is a free service provided by Google which is implemented across 99% of the websites.

To put it simply Google Analytics is a platform that collects data from your websites and apps to create reports that provide insights into your business.

From the 1st of July 2023, the standard Google Analytics (universal analytics) will stop to collect and processing data as it will be upgraded to the new GA4.

Why is this GA4 change important for your practice?

Failing to upgrade your Google Analytics and conversion tracking data will simply result in the loss of website analytical data. From July 1, 2023, you will simply not be recording any new stats on the old (Universal Analytics reports).

What changes will GA4 update bring?

Google Analytics data insights are the key to your digital marketing campaign and understanding the overall performance of your website.

The new GA4 is a new property designed for the future of measurement:

  • Collects both website and app data to better understand the customer journey
  • Uses event-based data instead of session-based
  • Includes privacy controls such as cookieless measurement, and behavioral and conversion modeling
  • Predictive capabilities offer guidance without complex models
  • Direct integrations to media platforms help drive actions on your website or app

To put it simply, it collects more data in a modern way. The conversion tracking also allows for a deeper level of tracking and insights.

How do you know if your Google Analytics needs to be updated?

It could be as easy as finding the Google Analytics tag on your website through your website code or by using something like the Google Tag Assitant browser plugin. Typically the old Universal Analytics codes start with UA and look like this UA-12345678.

What do I need to do to update this on my website?

Feel free to reach out to us for help in relation to your GA4 update. The difficulty isn’t so much with the Google Analytics tag update, but more with the conversion tracking on your website. This may require a deeper analysis of your website and then implementing additional tracking based on the new GA4 setup.

What is conversion tracking and why is it important?

Conversion tracking is a simple mechanism that allows you to track key actions on your website. For example the completion of a form or an online booking. On top of that it allows you to tie this event to the original traffic source. This way you can see exactly what marketing activities are driving your leads and bookings.
