Google’s calling it: “COVID-19: Ad credits for Google Ads small and medium-sized businesses”.

  • Who? For clients with Ad Accounts for ~ one year. (At least 10 months of one year as of February 2020). 

Most importantly, this offer is generous but not so generous you can sign up and get the credits applied today.  It’s for existing Google Ads Accounts that have been active for a year. In Google’s words: SME’s that have “spent with a Google Ads account in ten out of twelve months of 2019 and in January and/or February of this year.”

  • How? The credit is applied directly. 

Put down your black/blue ballpoint and don’t worry about an application form… Google is applying $US340 Million in ad credits directly to accounts. On the downside, no exceptions can be made or refunded. So if you’re the primary account holder check your email – you should have been notified with something like the image to the right  (it’s redacted to protect our client’s privacy).

  • What/How much? The amount will vary. Up to $US1,000 is available per client. 

Keeping things a little mysterious, Google is not providing details or exact figures. In Google’s words: it’s a gesture of solidarity with Small Businesses suffering from the impacts of COVID-19. 

They have, however, been very specific to mention that one credit will be issued per account even if there are multiple account holders. For example, we’ve been notified about Ad Credits for our clients’ accounts. We’re hoping to reach everyone who has received a credit either by phone or email, so please, stay tuned! 

  • When? In phases. Credits expire 31/12/2020.

Like lottery numbers being drawn, it’s been an exciting week in the office as notifications pop-up for the next lucky account holder. Google says it’s had to build the infrastructure while the credits are dispersed globally – the credits are like scattered rain showers. So, keep an eye out for the good news. 

Don’t forget: credits expire 31st December 2020. (Which is sooner than you think!). Life slowed down temporarily for COVID-19 and now, with the return to ‘the new normal’ will make time feel like a Japanese bullet train. We also recommend using the credits ASAP to make your recovery as fast as possible. 

  • Which platforms? Search, Display and YouTube, as well as all campaign types.

Perhaps it’s a great time to try a new channel with the credits or go further or more targetted with existing campaigns? Either way, the credits from Google are pretty remarkable.
